Regenerative Agriculture in
Thai Sugar Industry

From 2021, FairAgora Asia has supported a food company to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions (GHG) from its sugar supply chain in Thailand. The partnership aims to bring about sustainable and positive changes in sugarcane farming in Thailand through the implementation of regenerative agriculture practices.

To achieve this, the FairAgora team measured baseline data from existing datasets and on-site surveys. This data has enabled us to map out areas of improvement for sugarcane farmers under the supply chain. In partnership with a sugar processor, the team has conducted farmers' training that follows regenerative agriculture topics, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to reduce the carbon footprint in their cane production successfullyTopics concerning environmental and social improvements in sugarcane plantations are also included in the curriculum. This includes farmers' financial management and accountancy and health and safety on farms.

Along with helping farmers towards a sustainable and regenerative farming transition, the project places great importance that farmers benefit financially and environmentally from their farming adaptation in the long run.
