The 17 colorful icons of the UN Sustainable Development Goals

UN Sustainable Development Goals Fairagora’s Commitment

What are UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of global goals set by the United Nations to achieve a more sustainable future for all. The 17 SDGs address global challenges and promote the development of social, economic and environmental sustainability.

UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Fairagora’s commitment:

Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will require actors across public and private sectors to work together at scale. As sustainable development is at the heart of our mission, we are committed to the realization of these goals. The SDGs provide us with a framework to steer and monitor the impact of our projects.

How do Fairagora’s projects concretely support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

1. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns (SDG#12)

Our core business is to support sustainable agriculture. Through our digital tool and partnerships with various stakeholders from farmers to multinational companies, we promote sustainable farming practices and ensure more transparency and traceability across the food supply chain. Our work aims at fostering responsible consumption and benefits to the consumers while strengthening farmers’ economic, social and environmental situation.

2. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (SDG#13)

Agriculture is a crucial sector in addressing the climate challenge. Therefore, at Fairagora, we have integrated carbon footprint calculations into our application. Moreover, we have identified mitigation strategies such as reducing water and fuel consumption, halting biomass burning, replacing chemical fertilizers with bio-intrants, and promoting composting. Additionally, we plan to partner with farmers to implement these new practices, especially in our upcoming Climate Change Project with Nestlé for the Thai sugarcane industry.

3. Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all (SDG#8)

The social dimension is also a crucial component of our projects. Indeed, we use data analysis to measure farms’ compliance with both legal and social standards. Furthermore, we mobilized an expert committee to validate our metrics, and as a result, we introduced 12 social categories that include forced labor, child labor, worker discrimination, health, and safety.

4. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls (SDG#5)

The VerifiK8 app monitors gender equality data points and non-discriminatory practices on farms. This ensures equal treatment between male and female workers. Being a female-led company with predominantly female staff, Fairagora supports gender equality and women empowerment.

5. Other SDGs

Because our projects include social, economic, and environmental dimensions, we also contribute, albeit to a lesser extent to several other SDGs. In fact, by supporting sustainable agriculture, we participate in the protection of terrestrial ecosystems (SDG#15), help raise smallholders’ revenues (SDG#1), and improve their health (SDG#3). Furthermore, we remain committed to enhancing partnerships (SDG#17) and connecting stakeholders toward shared objectives. Consequently, we are proud to be part of an ecosystem of dedicated actors who strive to develop a more sustainable world by improving food supply chains.
