The Thai Aquatic Animals App aims to strengthen traceability for aquatic products in Thailand and boost buyer trust. One persistent issue is the mixing of aquatic animals from different origins. As a result, the Department of Fisheries launched a web-based tool that manages shrimp and other aquatic species trade. Farmers need specific certificates to confirm product origin. This measure allows the government to monitor each step of transportation and sales. Previously, the government prepared all traceability documents. Now, stakeholders across the supply chain can contribute to document creation, which increases transparency and efficiency.
Buyers and farmers must provide the Aquatic Animal Purchasing Document (APD) through a government website. This requirement helps operators issue official trade records and clarify the sources of marine shrimp and aquaculture products. The APD also proves that products are chemical-free, which increases consumer confidence in Thailand’s traceability system. Moreover, the Thai Aquatic Animals App offers a more convenient approach for farmers and entrepreneurs. It reduces paper usage since all trading data can be shared electronically.
The APD (Aquatic Animal Purchasing Document) covers the sale of aquatic animals, including their origin and purchase details. Farmers and stakeholders use the APD for trade. First, they must choose whether to file online or in person. Then, they provide a unique document number, the date, a farmer registration number, and the names of buyers and sellers.
The MD/FMD (Movement Document and Aquatic Animal Fry Movement Documents) comes from the Department of Fisheries. Farmers need these documents to sell shrimp and other aquatic species. They must include the farmer’s name, address, batch size, and harvest date. Stakeholders fill out the MD details online within 24 hours, and these records travel with each batch until it reaches the factory.
Entrepreneurs who want to export goods need certificates from the Department of Fisheries, such as DS-2031 or a Health Certificate. They attach relevant trade documents with each request to confirm the raw material’s origin.
Farmers need not worry about difficulties in using the Thai Aquatic Animals App. The Department of Fisheries offers staff support and free off-site training for registered farmers.
